Tottenham Agrees £17.2m Deal for Goalkeeper XGuglielmo Vicario, Potential Arrival of James Maddison

Tottenham Hotspur has reached an agreement with Empoli for the transfer of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario for a fee of £17.2 million.

The 26-year-old is set to undergo a medical in London this weekend and is poised to sign a lucrative five-year contract.

Tottenham had initially pursued Brentford’s David Raya, but the club was reluctant to meet the hefty £40 million asking price. Consequently, the focus shifted to Vicario, whose impressive performances for Empoli caught the attention of Spurs’ management.

Potential Arrival of James Maddison

In addition to bolstering their goalkeeper options, Tottenham is gaining confidence in their pursuit of Leicester City’s James Maddison. Despite the Foxes rejecting a joint £50 million bid for Maddison and his teammate Harvey Barnes, there is optimism surrounding the potential move.

Newcastle, previously interested in Maddison, has redirected their attention towards a £55 million move for AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali.

Guglielmo Vicario to Replace Hugo Lloris

Tottenham’s search for a new goalkeeper arises as their long-serving custodian, Hugo Lloris, is expected to leave the club this summer. With his imminent departure, Vicario’s arrival aims to fill the void between the goalposts.

Although uncapped by the Italian national team, Vicario’s inclusion in Italy’s squad highlights his potential. He made a strong impression during his stint at Empoli last season and previously represented the club on loan from Cagliari.

Maddison’s Contract Situation

Leicester City faces the dilemma of selling James Maddison this summer due to the midfielder having only one year left on his contract. This situation necessitates Leicester’s willingness to offload him to secure a substantial transfer fee.

Newcastle’s interest in Maddison last year has shifted towards pursuing Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali.

Currently, talks are underway between Newcastle’s Sporting Director Dan Ashworth, Head of Recruitment Steve Nickson, Milan executives, and Tonali’s agent, Giuseppe Rio, with regards to a potential £55 million deal.

Tottenham’s transfer plans also include strengthening their defence by targeting Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba.

The club has admired the talents of the 24-year-old Burkina Faso international for some time, and Tapsoba himself is eager to join Tottenham.

Tottenham Hotspur is making significant moves in the transfer market, securing the services of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario while actively pursuing the signings of James Maddison and Edmond Tapsoba.

These potential additions aim to strengthen the team’s squad ahead of the upcoming season, addressing key areas to enhance their competitiveness.
